John provided an amazing window in to evolution and development of Amsterdam city. Really appreciate his enthusiasm. He shows lot of support materials such as maps to explain the story, they are also good references for further. Got opportunity to understand Dutch culture through the nuanced explanations on communities their subtle symbols, public life, the great canals system, urban landmarks, and architecture. I highly recommend.

John is a well qualified History major, and has deep knowledge of architecture, city planning, social movements, economics, religions, politics and even art. There is so much that goes into the story of Amsterdam, almost too much to cover in a short walking tour! Beyond the dates and facts, John has a great understanding of some "themes" which are important in understanding Amsterdam and the Netherlands. Her goes out of his way to show real examples of the things he is discussing. Of course he knows what sites are worth seeing in the current day city, but he will help you understand what they represent. But John is flexible and accommodating, and he will tailor his discussions and explanations to suit your interests. We discussed everything from the Huguenots to the Hunger Winter! I was sorry when I had to leave at the end of the tour. Definitely I will encourage you to go on a tour with John.

We always do walking tours atmost cities we visit. A good way to get local insight and without doubt John made this experience one of the most memorable. Hi natural ease to communicate and bond with us and His most exceptional knowledge of the city was insightful. He was able to take a barrage of questions from us and made this a really informative and enjoyable few hours. For someone who has been to the city few times this now gives me an even better understanding. Not to be missed.

John is a great host who has the knowledge of the history of Amsterdam. But what impressed me the most is his enthusiasm to share his knowledge and love for Amsterdam and the Netherlands. He gave many information and background that are not typical of a tour. He also accommodated me to a bookstore and helped me buying a book there. I learned a great deal of the history, culture and people of the Netherlands. Highly recommend John!

I was very impressed with John’s detailed knowledge of the history of Amsterdam. There were very specific details along the way I would have never known if I did not have him guiding me along. He is also so passionate about Amsterdam and speaks of it with enthusiasm and an open mind. If you want a true history lesson of this beautiful city John is your guy for sure. A true Dutchman one might say :)

You haven’t experienced Amsterdam until you’ve walked around it with John. His love and passion for the city, the culture, the people and their history comes across in brilliant storytelling and great conversation. We loved every minute of John’s tour and would recommend his trip to everyone.

Our tour with John was beyond the expectations - his mix of history and personal experience made me feel immersed in the Dutch culture. He managed to incorporate many aspects of the Dutch society into a finely tuned storytelling, so I didn’t notice time passing by. Totally recommend for the relatively short but neat Amsterdam tour!

It was a very engaging and instructive experience. John is very friendly, passionate about history, well organized and he definitely masters the subject. My partner and I agreed, that John's guidance, went beyond historic events and their locations, by setting them in the social and political context of their respective period of time.

John is truly passionate about what he’s doing. He recently received a masters in History and this is evident in the tour. He was fully prepared and also amenable to any unique discussion/requests we had for the day. We were a small group, and ended up touring for 4.5 h and it was lovely. I’d highly recommend this experience.
